Explore Shetland

Using a bike or car to explore Shetland is the ideal way to tour the islands’ and see the stunning landscapes, coastal line, beaches, countryside and more.

If you’re searching for stunning sandy beaches, Shetland has plenty to choose from.

St. Ninian’s Isle, located on the south mainland of Shetland, is arguably a firm favourite for many Shetlanders. The beach joins the mainland to St Ninian’s Isle. The idyllic setting also has an archaeological site situated on the Isle for people to explore.

Eshaness is another destination that is advisable to visit.

Eshaness hosts spectacular cliffs with beautiful coastal views and is home to an abundance of wildlife. ‘Shetland’s Volcano’ can be discovered using the self-guide Volcano trail. Whilst exploring Eshaness, a visit to the Braewick Café or a stay at the Braewick Wigwams would be worthwhile.

Don't miss out all of Lerwick's attractions - our capital and the most northerly town in Britain.

Enjoy a walk through the narrow 19 century lanes connecting the town together and imagine life back then, full of beautiful townhouses, churches and a fort with spectaular views on the sound and island of Bressay. Leaving Victoria Pier, you'll find Lerwick's famous lodberries - old merchant warehouses facing the warterfront.

Looking for some archeology - Clickimin broch, Shetland's second best preserved, Iron Age round tower, is located in the southwestern part of Lerwick, nearby the Clickimin Leisure Complex, one of Britain's most modern and well-equipped sports facilities.

And visit our Museum and the many knitwear shops on Commercial Street.

There is much more to explore. We've gathered a few links that you may find useful in planning your stay.
